Spotify has claimed that the music you listen to can indicate your personality type. The company asked 5,808 volunteers to complete a personality test that rated them across five categories. The categories included openness, conscientiousness, extroversion, agreeableness, and emotional stability. After looking at their music history, Spotify found that the songs they listened to could be used to predict their personality. There is a great deal of information about personality that is communicated through musical preferences, Spotify. Country music fans were found to be more extroverted, while people who listened to the blues were more emotionally stable. Fans of Aretha Franklin and soul music tended to be more agreeable than others. However, those who listened to punk music were often disagreeable and had a lack of conscientiousness. The company may use these results to improve user experience and create more personalized content. Spotify was recently granted a patent for ‘systems for personalizing user experience based on personality traits’
