Lionel Messi Goes Off With Injury In Inter Miami Win

Lionel Messi was forced off after 37 minutes with an injury in Inter Miami’s 4-0 win against Toronto FC.  Manager Gerardo Martino said that the player is carrying an “old injury” and is a doubt for the final, along with Jordi Alba.  "I know we have a final to play [on Wednesday], but they won't go near the pitch if they can't play," said Martino.  The score was 0-0 when Messi left the field; however, his replacement, Robert Taylor, scored twice in a comfortable win.  The Argentine also didn’t play in Miami’s 5-2 loss to Atlanta due to fatigue and will miss their upcoming league game against Orlando City.  Messi was also left out of Argentina’s squad to face Bolivia, with manager Lionel Scaloni noting that the 36-year-old was “not ready to play.” Miami has not lost any of the 12 matches that they’ve played in since Messi’s arrival, but could now be without their captain in upcoming games.
