Ed Sheeran has become the first artist to reach 100 million followers on Spotify, which the singer’s team said in a tweet is “absolutely mental”. Sheeran announced the news on social media with a 43-second video in which he shows off a t-shirt that Spotify sent him for the milestone. The singer walked around backstage at one of his shows and tried to get people to ask him about the t-shirt. The t-shirt says "Ask me about my 100 million Spotify followers”. Sheeran is now the most followed artist on the streaming service ahead of several global superstars. Ariana Grande has 81 million followers, Billie Eilish has 66 million, Drake has 65 million and Justin Bieber has 63 million. The British pop star was also the first artist to hit 50 million followers back in March 2020.
