Chaka Khan has apologized for blasting Rolling Stones's recent list of the 200 Greatest Singers of All Time. Khan, who ranked 29th on the list, shaded several artists who ranked higher than her, including Mariah Carey and Adele. During an appearance on The Originals podcast, Khan claimed that the magazine’s editors were “blind b*****s” who “need hearing aids”. The soul singer joked that Mariah Carey’s fifth-place ranking “must be payola or some s*** like that”. When Khan heard that Adele ranked at 22 on the list she threw her hands in the air and said, “ok I quit”. Khan went on to “sincerely apologize” for her comments in an Instagram post, saying it wasn’t her intention to “cause pain or upset anyone”. The Ain’t Nobody singer confessed that “instead of questioning the need for such a list, I was pitted against other artists and I took the bait”. "As artists, we are unfairly put into ‘boxes,’ ‘categories’ or on ‘lists.’ Being an artist or musician is not a competition. It’s a gift, for which I am truly grateful", Chaka Khan.
