An 85-year-old woman has been killed by an alligator while she was walking her dog in Fort Pierce, Florida. The 10-foot (three-meter) alligator attacked the woman’s dog first but went on to attack her after she tried to save her pet. A neighbor called emergency services when they saw the alligator drag the woman into the water. The dog survived the attack but unfortunately, the woman died from her injuries. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said a “contracted nuisance alligator trapper has captured the alligator". It reportedly took six wildlife officials to wrangle the alligator into the back of a pickup truck. Since 1948, only 23 out of 442 unprovoked alligator bites in Florida have resulted in fatalities. The FWC says that you get bitten by an alligator the “best thing to do is fight back”.
