The Texas Dogs Saving Rhinos From Poachers

A pack of specially trained dogs, originally from Texas, have saved 45 rhinos from poachers in South Africa since 2018. The dogs, and their human counterparts at the Southern African Wildlife College, work to protect the country’s national parks. The pack of beagles, bloodhounds, and other breeds were trained from birth to protect wildlife. To date, the dogs have helped law enforcement to catch 145 poachers and confiscate 53 guns. The K9 unit was created with the help of Joe Braman, a rancher from Texas, who was brought in to train dogs. Braman decided to return to Texas and train a pack of dogs there, before bringing them back to South Africa. After returning to the national park, Braman's dogs almost instantly apprehended a group of poachers. Since then, Kruger National Park has seen a ten-fold increase in the successful capture of poachers. Recently, the Southern African Wildlife College celebrated the birthday of a litter of puppies born from the original Texan dogs. In as little as six months they will go out in the field to protect and serve endangered wildlife
