Cristiano Ronaldo's lawyers are set to appear in court regarding hush money paid in 2010 to a woman who had accused him of rape. Ronaldo paid $375,000 in hush money to Kathryn Mayorga after she accused him of raping her in a Las Vegas hotel room in 2009. Ronaldo has vehemently denied all of the allegations Mayorga has made against him. A lawsuit seeking a further payout was dismissed last year, but Mayorga's lawyers will speak to the US appeals court to revive this bid. The athlete's legal team has maintained that the sexual encounter was consensual, and Ronaldo professed his innocence as recently as 2018. "I firmly deny the accusations being issued against me. Rape is an abominable crime that goes against everything that I am and believe in," said Ronaldo in a statement he made in 2018.
