Ajanta Caves is located around 230 km from Mumbai, the financial capital of India. This place is famous for Buddhist rock-cut cave temples and monasteries. The area consist of a group of 30 caves which were excavated between the 1st century BCE and the 7th century CE. These are broadly divided into caityas (“sanctuaries”) and viharas (“monasteries”). The caves were designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1983.
