Google has announced that its AI assistant, Gemini, will now be integrated into its Messages app. The assistant will allow users to interact with the AI through text messaging. Gemini can assist users in drafting messages, brainstorming ideas, planning events or engaging in casual conversations in the Messages app. However, this update follows recent criticism of Google's Gemini AI. Gemini had to be partially taken offline due to the controversy surrounding its generation of racially diverse but inaccurate historical images. Despite this, the introduction of Gemini into Messages is currently only available on Android phones for users enrolled in Google's beta program. Android will also be able to generate captions for images, a feature it said had been designed “with blind and low-vision communities.” This update coincides with a series of new Android updates, many of which focus on artificial intelligence.
