Travel writer, Jordan Parker, has visited her fair share of countries and noted that each place has “tourist traps” - but some are worth the hype. “Tourist traps” around the world tend to be crowded, over-expensive and often don’t radiate with the place’s true cultural feel. However, some captivate tourists for a reason; they really are extraordinary. At the top of Parker’s list is the Statue of Liberty. She confessed that she was "surprised" by how much she gained from the experience. Another NYC spot she recommends is Ellis Island, which was America's most active immigration station from 1892 to 1924. Petra is a city in Jordan carved into red sandstone cliffs dating back to around 300 BC, making it a must-visit destination for your travel bucket list. Parker wishes she “carved out an entire day to explore the city. There’s so much more to see than just the Treasury”. Parker claims she “actually loved visiting the Eiffel Tower.” Although the site was very busy, she happily sat on the grass and people-watched. If in Cuba, pay for a ride in a classic candy-colored car through the streets. Although it seems like a huge “tourist trap”, Parker says “it was worth it.” Visitors to Marrakech rarely leave without being awed by its vibrant charm. Parker's top choice is the Medina in the old city. The Medina’s central square, Jamaâ El Fna, is packed with fruit stands, restaurants, fabric sellers and street performers.
